Subject: Great all-around show
Spraypaint - Standard
SBMC > Rose > Spectacle - This jam starts out a lot better than most '03 Spacebirds, though that's not saying a lot. Barber gets into some catchy hooks, but overall the band doesn't really seem to know where they want to go. The segue here is a fake segue. The Shelby jam starts off as a house jam rather than the usual dnb jam, which is alright. They've got this catchy groove going, though again it's pretty aimless. At about 10:30 or so they get into this really dark psychedelic jam that is fantastic. They wind up turning this into an absolutely incredible build into the beginning of Spectacle. This jam is fantastic! Spectactle is standard.
Where do the Children Play? - This. is. just. ugh. If you can make it through the whole thing, you're a bigger man than I.
Mitts - Standard
Rock > Boop > Candy - The Rock Candy jam starts out with some really cool stuff from Magner, and Brownie is playing some actually interesting dark basslines. Turns into some really great middle-eastern scale stuff from Magner. Awesome jam. The first Boop jam manages to get away from the usual bluesy wank fest and into some neat stuff. The drop back into Boop is great. The 2nd Boop jam is a little monotonous at the beginning, but around the 17 minute mark they change dramatically. It winds up in this mysterious jam that sounds really really cool on the way back into Rock Candy.
Barfly - Standard
Dribble > Ah Moshi Moshi > Jam > Confro - Dub Dribble, and this winds up becoming a really great dub jam, powered by a catchy as hell bassline that Brownstein comes up with. The Ah-Moshi Moshi jam is pretty boring, and extremely slow to get going. Once Barber and Brownstein drop back in to the jam, it is fantastic. Sick groove between Brownstein and Magner. Sick.
5 stars. Standouts: 7-11, Shelby > Spectacle, RC > Boop > RC, Dribble, Confrontation.
